Indian Auto Rickshaw – a love-need-hate relationship

Let me tell you about how I every day manage to get to work 1 km away in 3 minutes without taking a taxi, bus, train, bike, helicopter, teleport, or any other classic transportation device. You might think I take a morning jog, which could make sense because I have always been a good runner. But the weather is a little too hot, my morning brain is a little too tired, and my bag a very little too inconvenient to run around with. I actually would have no problem running 1 km in 3 minutes, it is flat ground and not much traffic. I might even be able to make it in 2 min, or is 1 minute even possible? It means I have to run 5.5 m/s, probably impossible.  I have to check out the world record… ok the current world record for the men’s 1 kilometer is held by Noah Ngeny from Kenya in 1999, his time is 2:11:96.

Trying to adapt to the Indian culture: The concept of Time

So far so good. The first week in India felt like a month, it was not a busy week, but when there are too many new impressions the time is somehow moving slowly. Slow is actually a good word to describe how things are managed here or the attitude many people have, which is more towards the laid-back direction. I just have to try to get used to it so as not to freak out. And please forgive my generalized selection of words…
